What are the primary advantages of hot-pressed molded power inductors?

2026-10-12

The advantages of hot-pressed molded power inductors primarily lie in three aspects: high reliability, excellent anti-saturation capability, and low loss.

First, process-driven high reliability. Compared to traditional high-pressure cold pressing, hot-pressing molding requires lower pressure, effectively preventing deformation of internal windings or damage to the insulation layer. Meanwhile, the hot-pressing process results in extremely low residual internal stress, significantly reducing the risk of solder joint cracking or layer-to-layer short circuits caused by mismatched Coefficients of Thermal Expansion (CTE) under extreme temperature variations. This makes it highly suitable for high-reliability applications such as automotive and servers.

Second, superior magnetic circuit characteristics and anti-saturation capability. By pressing an "independent magnetic core + metal alloy powder," a uniform distributed air gap is formed internally. Under high-current surges, the inductance exhibits a smooth "soft-saturation" drop, avoiding loop instability caused by abrupt inductance collapse and ensuring stability during high-current output.

Third, low loss and low interference in electrical performance. The compact structure of the hot-pressed molded inductor offers high space utilization, allowing for thicker flat copper wire to be wound internally, thereby achieving ultra-low DC resistance (DCR) and significantly reducing copper loss and heat under high currents. Furthermore, its fully shielded magnetic circuit greatly reduces magnetic flux leakage and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), perfectly meeting the design requirements of modern high-density power boards.
