For board-level mechanical stress and CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) matching, integrity of the inductor body alone is not sufficient; solder joint reliability must be guaranteed.

2026-11-05

SYNYON hot-pressed integrated inductors adopt a low-pressure high-temperature molding process, which greatly reduces the risk of internal cracking inside the component body. As the manufacturer, however, we need to remind design engineers: the metal magnetic powder body is generally stiffer than conventional wire-wound inductors. Under extreme temperature cycling or PCB mechanical bending, improper PCBA design at the end product can cause stress concentration to transfer to the pads beneath the inductor due to CTE mismatch, leading to solder joint fatigue. While SYNYON guarantees structural stability of the inductor body under harsh conditions, proper layout coordination from the end design is also required.

Design and Selection Recommendations

Tight control of flatness and coplanarity: Hot-pressed inductors generally feature large terminal areas. SYNYON implements strict 100% inspection on the flatness of bottom electrodes before shipment to secure high SMT assembly yield. When selecting large-size inductors, customers may request detailed coplanarity process data from SYNYON to prevent insufficient solder or cold solder joints caused by minor warpage.

Layout design for stress relief: During PCB layout, for large, heavy hot-pressed inductors, it is recommended to use NSMD (Non-Solder Mask Defined) pads with rounded corners or add stress relief features. Avoid placing inductors in high-stress zones such as board edges, panel V-cut lines or near screw holes. For automotive-grade and high-reliability industrial projects, SYNYON can provide full board-level temperature cycling and drop test reports to support customers’ system-level qualification.
